A citation is a promise that the thing you pointed at will still be there, and still be what you said it was. We try hard to keep that promise — and to tell you if we ever can't.

The link you cited in 2026 resolves to the same record in 2036 — editing a description never mints a new address.
When a fact changes, it is recorded as a correction rather than silently swapped underneath you. The old reading stays visible, because a citation to a claim we quietly deleted is worse than one to a claim we openly revised.
If a record is withdrawn, its link lands on a tombstone explaining what happened. Never a 404, and never — the worse failure — a different record sitting at the address you cited.
If a record states something you can show to be untrue, report it and it gets logged like any other correction. Corrections is the door for that.
If you have cited a record in published work, leave us the link. We will email you if it is ever corrected or withdrawn — and only then. Not a newsletter, not a digest, and never used for anything else.
