Privacy
That is the whole policy. The rest of this page is only the detail of how we keep it — what we hold, and why we hold it.
Nobody pays us for you.
There is no version of this business where your reading habits are the product. The archive is paid for by prints, licenses and patrons — by people choosing to buy something. That is the entire reason we can write the sentence above without an asterisk.
Not to brokers, not to advertisers, not to “analytics partners”, and not bundled into an asset sale. There is no price.
We don’t track you across other websites, and we don’t buy data about you from anyone else to fill in gaps.
The archive is free and anonymous to read, search and cite. An account exists only to hold an order or a download.
| What | Only when | Why we need it | How long |
|---|---|---|---|
| Nothing at all | Reading the archive | Browsing, searching and citing records requires no account and no identification. | n/a |
| Email address | You have an account, or you write to us | It is your login. It identifies your account, it is how we confirm a sign-in is really you, and it is where a password reset has to go. Account security depends on it — which is exactly why it is never traded or handed to anyone selling something. | while the account exists |
| Name & delivery address | You buy something | To print the thing and put it in the post. There is no other use. | as long as tax law requires |
| Card details | You buy something | We never see these. They pass from your browser straight to the payment processor and never touch our servers. | never held |
| Order history | You buy something | So you can find your downloads again, and so we can honor a reprint. | as long as tax law requires |
| Who | What they see | Why they exist here |
|---|---|---|
| Payment processor | Card & billing details | Takes the payment. They hold the card data precisely so that we don’t. |
| Email provider | Email address | Delivers the mail we send you — order confirmations, replies, password resets. |
| Content delivery | IP address, briefly | Sits in front of the site to keep it up and to block scrapers. |
| Hosting | Everything, at rest | The servers and database the site runs on. |
